Scientific advisor to the film-makers
Allan is an academic at the University of Sheffield School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and has been involved in the recruitment of sperm donors and the provision of sperm donor treatments for the past 20 years.
He has written widely on the topic of sperm donation and has been a member of several national working parties reviewing various aspects of how sperm donors are recruited within the UK. In 2008 he was the chairman of a working party that published updated UK guidelines for the Medical and Laboratory screening of sperm donors.
Allan regularly provides comment in the media on many aspects of Reproductive Medicine and has appeared on the Today programme, Woman’s Hour and various BBC News programmes. He has also been involved on and off screen in several recent television programmes including: The Great Sperm Race (2009), The Truth About Food (2007), Make me a Baby (2007) and Lab Rats (2004).
Allan was the Scientific Advisor for Donor Unknown and will be involved in the various outreach activities planned for early 2011.
